RATES
and other frequently asked questions
Square Inch Price
I charge 3.5 cents per square inch for average density designs. If a higher density design is chosen, the rate will increase accordingly.
Example:
An average density quilted top is 60 inches x 50 inches. 60 x 50 = 3000 x .035 = $105.
My minimum quilting charge is $75. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $75 minimum. However, if you have multiple items that can be loaded on the same backing and batting, they would all go towards meeting the minimum charge.
Batting
I use and stock mainly natural fibers, 100% cotton and 100% washable wool, from Quilters Dream. I will special order batting such as 80/20 cotton/poly blend or other specialty batting if desired i.e. black, bamboo, etc. My favorite batting is wool for the extra texture and I also find that it is easy to care for and lightweight.
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price. I charge for batting by the linear inch from queen rolls except in the case of special orders. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 6" margin) and charge per inch. In the case of special orders I charge for the whole cut. In this example of a 60" x 50" quilt, the closest cut would be a twin size pre-cut and the unused batting would be returned to you.
For example, if you have a 60" x 50" quilt, I would cut 56" of the batting of your choice.
56" of 100% cotton deluxe loft @ $0.56/in = $31.36
56" of 100% wool @ $0.52/in = $29.12
56" of 80/20 cotton/poly blend @ $0.38/in = $21.28

Thread
I stock Cairo Quilt (#50 weight, cotton), Glide (#40 weight, polyester) and MicroQuilter (#100wt, polyester) threads. I don't charge any extra fees for using one thread color; it's included in your square inch price. Using more than one color thread on one quilt will incur a thread change of $5 per additional thread color, per thread change.
My design preference is to use one thread color that matches the majority of the fabrics in your quilt, opting for the lighter in value. But this is your quilt! Let me know if you have a preference on thread color.
Photography
I'm not a professional photographer but I do my best to take nice, well-lit photos with my phone. Upon completion of the quilting, I will take photos of your quilt and then text/email you those images to use however you would like. I'd just ask that you credit me for the photo and/or quilting if posting publicly. This extra service is included in your square inch price.
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in California, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I will provide the address once we agree to work together. I recommend sending your materials enclosed in some kind of plastic sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly with your information so that I can identify it from the outside of the box.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via a shipping service that finds the best rate. In the event that service is USPS Priority mail, it comes with $100 of insurance and a tracking number. Please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.
Payment
After the work is complete, I will email your invoice. I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to mail your project(s) back to you right away.
